Description

Western Perspective

Acute injuries are caused by traumatic impacts such as falling, car accidents, and other sudden blows to the body. These cause inflammatory processes to develop that generate swelling and pain. Icing areas of trauma is the first intervention from a Western perspective. The purpose of icing from this paradigm is to reduce new inflammation from developing and to numb the pain.

Oriental Medical Perspective

Acute trauma causes Qi stagnation, blood stagnation, Water Qi excess to penetrate the tissues, and the development of dampness (Wood Qi plus Earth Qi). Icing is not recommended by Oriental medical practitioners because the additional Water Qi excess added to the injury will make the injury last longer and worsen it. Plus, numbing the area increases the likelihood of using the affected body part (and likely worsening the damage) instead of giving it time to heal. The Oriental method is to increase blood movement (not decrease it with icing) through heat application and herbs that invigorate the blood. Qi stagnation is cleared and dampness is removed as necessary.

Acute Injuries Qi Infusion

This Infusion focuses on Oriental medical interventions for the quickest possible resolution of the energy imbalances behind acute injury symptoms such as swelling and inflammation. This Infusion is not designed to treat bleeding injuries or burns.
